Hillhead Cricket Club

Rain forced all 3 senior matches on 11/12 May to be cancelled with no play.  The Firsts and Seconds games on Saturday v Kilmarnock were early call offs and Sunday's home game against Accies survived slightly longer but the inevitable decision was made at 11.30am.

We will try again next Saturday as the Firsts travel to Irvine with the reverse fixture at Hughenden.

Hillhead Under 15's finally got onto the field with a local derby against Glasgow Accies on Friday 10 May. Considering the ball was wet we bowled very well restricting a strong Accies batting line-up to 107-6 though some of our fielding was pretty "ropey". Best figures were from Cameron Horn with his quick stuff taking 3-16 and he also made a great full-length diving stop to run out an Accies opener who assumed the ball was past him and "hared" off down the track.

In reply we started quietly not hitting a boundary until the 6th over. Cammy Horn then decided to have some fun and proceeded to slaughter the Accies bowling hitting 10 fours and 4 sixes to end on 75* with us winning in only 14.4 overs by 5 wkts.  Hillhead's last 87 came off 46 balls with one poor Accies bowler going for 33 in his 2 overs. All in all a GOOD NIGHT'S WORK!!

Hillhead youngsters Jai Tyagi, Adam Khan and Ayub Khan were selected for the Glasgow North Under 12s for the recent game against Renfrewshire.  Well done boys!

In the 2013 Cricket Scotland Challenge Cup, Hilllhead travel to Marchmont - the match being scheduled for Sunday 26 May in Edinburgh.

The First Eleven got the 2013 competitive season off to a winning start as they brushed aside a weak Vale of Leven at Hughenden on Saturday 20 April.  On a green wicket, Richard Bond had no hesitation in asking the visitors to bat and the Hillhead bowlers soon made quick inroads to the Vale batting as Nick Potts picked up 3 cheap wickets.  Batsmen came and went  with Bates, Lewis Faulds (2/1), Atif Ahmed (2/7) and Deepak Yadav all picking up wickets as "Vale" subsided to 51 all out in 26 overs.

In reply, Vale managed to pick up the wickets of Nayak and Fergus but David Foster battled hard to remain unbeaten on 18 as Hillhead passed their target after 15 overs.

Next week, Langloan visit Hughenden - again in the Western Cup.

Hillhead have been drawn in a group with Albert Park, Langloan and Vale of Leven in the 2013 Western Cup.  The first match is scheduled for Sat 21 April.

Hillhead open their defence of the WDCU Premiership on Saturday 11 May with a home fixture against Kilmarnock.  The following Saturday, Glasgow Accies visit Hughenden and on the 25 May, Hillhead travel to Irvine.

Hillhead have been drawn at home against Albert Park (Weirs) in the first round of the 2013 Greenwood Cup.
