A short service was held in the Sports Club at Hughenden on Saturday morning November 11 to commemorate Armistice Day.

Before a smallish group of members and four guests from Hillhead High School, Head Mrs Karen McAlaney, Mr Tom Carson SMT, and Head Prefects, Carl Haas and Pearl Smith-Stewart, James Lindley -Dawe ( pictured) explained the history of the opening of the War Memorial Grounds and its Clubhouse along with the WW1 and later WW2 Memorial panels.

Two poems were recited – “My Boy Jack” by Rudyard Kipling and “To AHJ” by Violet Jacob- respectively by James Lindley-Dawe and Bernie Mitchell.

The traditions of the Last Post, the Silence and Reveille were also observed.

James Lindley- Dawe is more usually seen at Hughenden in his cricketing whites in his role as the 1st X1 wicketkeeper. Here for the service he wore the uniform of an Able Seaman in the RNVR. In the image he is displaying the wreath provided by HMS Dalriada
