Hillhead 1XI 137 all out (46 overs) (1 point) Kilmarnock 1XI 138 for 4 (20 overs) (25 points)
On a coldish afternoon, characterised by slate grey skies, Hillhead’s performance matched the weather gods, as the visitors slid to a heavy 6 wicket defeat. And yet Hillhead , inserted by Kilmarnock, started well with captain/wicket keeper, Jim Lindley-Dawe, opening the batting and contributing a well constructed 45 with 4 fours and 1 six in a 92 ball knock. He received goodish support from Krushnesh Patel (20) and Shash Mazunder (13) but the rest of the line up could not lift the “choke” that the hosts slows, Fourie and Singh, exerted. Between them some 17 overs were delivered, conceding only 44 runs, for the loss of 6 wickets.
The tea interval chat concluded the first innings total of 137 was probably some 30 runs shy of a par score. However, events proved that to be a tad illusory, as Kilmarnock raced to the winning total at more than a run a ball. This was despite a very testing opening spell from Gavin Lynch and Cameron Horn which reduced the hosts to 22 for 2 after 8 overs.
Thereafter Dehan Fourie entered the ring and proceeded to hit boundaries as if he was shelling peas. In a whirlwind 32 ball innings of 87 not out, some 7 maximums and 6 fours were effortlessly collected. It was indeed a time not to be bowling. Amid the carnage, debut player, Rayyan Butt, picked up his first senior wicket with only his second ball at the other end.
This outcome was another chastening experience for the Hillhead cricketers as they seek their first win at this level. Hopefully fortunes will change on Saturday the 20th when East Renfrewshire visit Hughenden in round 12 of the WDCU premiership 2 competition, 12.00 start.
