HILLHEAD 1XI LOSE TO IRVINE AT HUGHENDEN

Irvine 152 all out in 41 overs (25 points) Hillhead 88 all out in 31 overs (0 points)

Occupation of the crease with a steady accumulation of runs is a prerequisite for success in league Cricket. In round 14 of the WDCU Premiership 2 at Hughenden, visitors Irvine delivered that criterion whereas Hillhead’s batters stumbled. Admittedly Irvine relied heavily on their professional, Sachin Jayawardena, to supply the glue which bound their innings together with a 71 ball innings yielding 36 runs with only one boundary. But four other batters had double digit scores.

However Hillhead’s change bowlers, Sheehan Das and Rayyan Butt, toiled hard to halt the visitors’ progress. Das in an unchanged spell returned 10-2-32-3, his first over cost 10 runs, while the coltish Butt shone with 7.1-0-19-4, including the wicket of the visiting professional. Gavin Lynch once again displayed exceptional sharpness fielding in the slips, taking two fine catches.

For their part, Hillhead’s captain/wicketkeeper , Jim Lindley-Dawe, and Krushnesh Patel worked hard for their runs, 11 and 16 respectively, and Hillhead were up with the rate after the first 10 for the loss of only 1 wicket.

When Jim got out the score was 47 for 2 off 16 overs, but unfortunately the rest of the batting order crumbled in the face of very tight Irvine bowling and were unable to ‘dig in,’ the visitor’s overseas amateur, Jack Loram finishing with 10-1-34-5 from his spell. Hillhead all out for 88.

Hillhead now travel hopefully to Renfrew in round 15 of the competition with a 12.00 start at the KG5 playing fields.
A win would be very welcome.
