Titwood 178 all out (50 overs) 3 points Hillhead 1st X1 180 for 5 wkts in 48.1 overs 25 points

This was a very close game throughout, as evidenced by the fact that the hosts just scampered past the Titwood total of 178 with only 11 balls left of their innings. Inserted by Hillhead, Titwood accelerated away thanks to their experienced opener, Paddy Barbour, until a full length ball from Hillhead’s strike bowler “Logger” Lynch, trapped him LBW for 17. Thereafter his fellow opener, Nic Pyne, delivered a solid 47, and all rounder, Gregor Anderson, added a quick fire 22.

However, generally the visitors did not fare well against the Hillhead slows, with the home trio of Lucas Farndale, Jared Bartlett and Captain Jack Holland bowling some 22 overs between them for 57 runs, each claiming 2 wickets. Of these 6 dismissals, 3 were clean bowled while the others were all down to the fine glove work of keeper Jim Lindley -Dawe, with 3 stumpings.

Hillhead were made to work hard for their runs and were indebted to fine knocks from Ganesh Ardarkar with 53 and their captain, Jack Holland, with a pugnacious 54 to take them near their target. However, Lucas Farndale with an understated 19 not out and Snehaan Das with a quick 7 not out took their side home for their win and 25 points.

Next up in the league are newcomers, Mearns, who visit Hughenden on Saturday June 3rd with a 12.00 start. Before then, the Hillhead midweek X1 s play Milngavie on Tuesday in round 3 of the Western Cup and on Thursday June 1st Renfrew are the visitors in round 2 of the Rowan cup trophy. There will be no rest next week from either the “heat” and cricket, as Sunday June 4th sees the 1st X1 play the Highland Club from Inverness in round 1 of the Cricket Scotland Challenge cup, a 40 over a side game with a 13.00 start.
