Hillhead 1st X1 218 for 8 after 50 overs Galloway 46 for 4 after 10.5 overs

MATCH ABANDONED – NO league points awarded.

There had already been one disruption for 20 minutes during the Hillhead innings for a rain shower without any significant impact on the progress of the game. But when the storm clouds gathered with particular menace some 10 overs into the host’s reply and heavy rain began to fall, players immediately sought the sanctuary of the clubhouse. Some 3 minutes later an almighty peal of thunder followed by a bright flash of lightning ensured this game would not restart, such was the severity of the downpour.

At that stage, Hillhead were firmly in the driving seat for full win points in this WDCU premiership 3 league game. Parts of the visitors innings in the top order were sluggish. However, the lower order propelled the score along without too many alarms. Romir More hit freely for a fine 36, but it was the 8th wicket partnership of 76 between Cammy Horn ( 43 with 2 6’s ) and Jared Bartlett ( 30 not out with 2 4’s and 1 6 ) which turned the game in the visitors’ favour.

219 on the Gatehouse square/outfield does not present as an insurmountable target, but losing your opening batter to the first ball of the game from Ayub Khan, followed by a clatter of wickets in the 10th over, all 3 to change bowler, Mark Forbes, with a hat trick, could not have inspired much confidence in the home dressing room. BUT then Jupiter Pluvius intervened and all the good spells of cricket which preceded the “ cloudburst” were washed away, to remain only in the memory banks of those who performed well.

Hillhead return to home ground on Saturday July 15th , 12.00 start, when they entertain Victoria in what will be a very hard fought game. All supporters welcome.
