Hillhead X1 235 for 4 ( after 40 overs ) Milngavie X1 61 all out ( after 20 overs )
This was a good start to season 2023 when the home side, comprising a mix of 1st and 2nd X1 squad players, comprehensively defeated their visitors, Milngavie CC on a blameless wicket.
Principal contributors for the hosts with the bat were 1st X1 vice captain, Ross Jones, with a quick fire 59, James Thornhill with a 50 ( retired) and the colt, Jared Bartlett, who compiled a well structured 45 with a fine mix of attacking strokes and watchful defence. Ally Fergus, 2nd X1 vice captain, added a valuable 29, opening the innings with Ross Jones.
Unfortunately Milngavie’s reply never got going. Hillhead’s opening attack, Mark Forbes , all bristling hostility and Phil Murray with his gentle seamers, proved too much for the visitors’ top order, Forbes picking up 3 for 12 and Murray 2 for 19. Second change , Wayne Bartlett, with a miserly spell took 2 for 3 and that was virtually it for the game.
Hillhead continue their pre-season warm up preparation with a game today against Glasgow University at Hughenden.
League cricket starts on April 29th when the 1st X1 travel to Ardencaple to play Helensburgh while the 2nd X1 entertain Kirkstyle at Hughenden. Both games have a 12.00 start.
