Hillhead 1st X1 77 all out (27 overs) West X1 80 for 8 (29 overs)
A glance at this scoreline would suggest a poor pitch being the underlying cause. However the reality was somewhat different. Of the 21 batters who visited the middle, only 4 , 2 from each team, made it to double figures. The home debutant, James Lindley-Dawe with a fine 34, containing 6 hard hit boundaries, and captain, Shehroz Mehmood, with a typically belligerent 16 were the contributors for Hillhead. For visitors West, Jakobson with 26 and Andrew Galloway with 24 were the men who counted. Six Hillhead batters were clean bowled, but only 3 of the visitors lost their wicket that way. The home bowling was reasonably tidy with 7 bowlers being used. The best figures were returned by newcomer, Ross Jones , who took 3 for 8 in a probing spell of off spin.
The Hillhead squad will want to show better form in the middle, when they play their first league game vs West end rivals. GHK, at Old Anniesland on Saturday April 30th, start 12.00. Before then however, some of the squad will have an opportunity to sharpen up in a T20 friendly vs the BBC at Titwood on Wednesday 27th, start 18.00.
