Greenock 1st XI 233 all out in 50 overs (25 points) Hillhead 1st XI 95 all out in 32 overs (0 points)

This was a good day for both Greenock’s Australian amateurs, but a chastening one for the local boys. Angus Tolhurst, batting at 4 for Greenock, stroked and punished his way to a commanding 115 with eight “fours” and five maximums. The next highest scorers for the visitors were Aryan Sanghera and “extras” both with 28. Hillhead tried hard in the field but could not at any stage halt the onslaught against a side which batted their full allocation of the 50 overs.

Their difficulties did not abate when it came to their occupation of the crease. Both Aussies, Connor Nowlan and Tolhurst, opened the bowling and of the 32 overs which the hosts faced, 20 of these came from “Down under”. Nowlan was mightily impressive, fast and direct, and occasionally hostile, returning figures of 10-2- 12-5, while his mate contributed 10-2-23-2. But for some waywardness from the visitors’ change bowlers, the Hillhead reply would have been considerably less than the one finally posted.

However, it was not all “doom and gloom” for the Hughenden squad as Romir More with his flighted leg breaks took 3 for 51 in the Greenock innings and Daanish Hashmi bowled well with very little luck, returning 1 for 36 off his 10 overs. Additionally, Hashmi sparkled with the bat, adding a very hard hit 38 before he was castled by Nowlan.

The WDCU Premiership 2 caravan for Hillhead now moves on to Kilmarnock, playing at the Scott Ellis fields KA1 3JB, on Saturday July 13th with a 12.00 start. Round 11 of the fixtures list will hopefully supply a change in fortune for Jim Lindley-Dawe’s squad.
