Glasgow Accies 193 all out in 48 overs (25 points) Hillhead 1st XI 142 all out in 42 overs (3 points.)

On a blustery, and at times cold June afternoon at Hughenden, Glasgow Accies did enough with both bat and ball and in the field to defeat a stuffy Hillhead XI by a margin of 51 runs, and thereby condemn Hillhead to a straight 9th defeat in the WDCU Premiership 2 division.

The visitors’ batters combined patience with occasional belligerence and 3 of their number recorded scores of 30 or more: David Holloway with a well composed 33, “Sammy” Zia with a well constructed and elegant 38 which provided the glue in their middle order and then Farhan Shah with 3 4’s and 2 maximums, which showed the value of the tail “wagging considerably.” Cameron Horn, opening the Hillhead attack, bowled well to take 3 for 20 while both Daanish Hashmi and Keshav Soni put a break on the visitors middle order with respectively 3 for 29 and 2 for 29 from their 10 over spells. Gavin Lynch again fielded well with 3 sharp catches but the overall impression of the Hillhead attack was its profligacy in gifting wides, a total of 31, and extra “overs” to their visitors.

In their reply, Hillhead’s wicket keeper captain, Jim Lindley-Dawe provided a stirring example in opening the innings and battling through to the 29th over, compiling only the second half century from a Hillhead 1st XI batter this season. His innings of 55 was founded on caution and patience with only 4 boundaries and one 6 but lots of well run singles and twos. Unfortunately few of his colleagues could match his determined approach at the crease. However the Hillhead tail did “wag” with Jared Bartlett, batting 9, showing application and no little skill to finish on 23 not out with 3 “4’s”. Change bowler, Keshav Soni, batting 10, also held up the inevitable Accies win with a defiant 13. Hillhead’s batters mustered a total of 124 with extras contributing a further 18. Of these some 15 were wides, 16 less than Hillhead bowled.

This fixture concluded the first round of 9 games in the WDCU premiership 2 division. Round 2 commences this coming Saturday, July 6th, when Hillhead welcome visitors, Greenock, to Hughenden with a 12.00 start.
